How we refurbish laptops
This is how refurbished laptops are tested at Buyer Area. Every MacBook, ThinkPad, Latitude, EliteBook, Surface, iMac and monitor we sell goes through the same six steps in our own UK workshop before it is listed. Our refurbished laptop process in the UK has been the same since 2011.
Checked in and logged
Each device gets its own barcode and serial record when it arrives, so we can trace its history from our workshop to your door.
Fully tested
We check the screen, keyboard, trackpad, ports, speakers, microphone, camera, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth and storage. Anything that fails is set aside for repair.
Repaired where needed
Faulty parts are replaced in our own workshop, then the device is tested again from the start.
Data wiped and reinstalled
The previous owner’s data is securely erased and a fresh copy of macOS or Windows is installed, ready for you to set up.
Cleaned and graded
Every device is deep-cleaned, then graded A, B or C on its looks only, so you know exactly what to expect before you order.
Packed and covered
Your order is dispatched within 1–2 working days with free mainland UK delivery, and a 12-month warranty starts on the day it arrives.
What the grades mean
Grades describe how a device looks, never how it works. Every grade is fully tested and has the same 12-month warranty. Grades A, B and C explained.
Covered for 12 months
If something goes wrong, we repair or replace it. Warranty details · 30-day returns · Delivery.
