A refurbished laptop should come with the same peace of mind as a new one. Every refurbished laptop, MacBook, desktop, tablet and monitor we sell comes with a 12-month Buyer Area warranty. This guide explains what that warranty covers, what it does not, how returns work and how to make a claim.
Quick answer
- 12-month warranty on every device, from the date it is delivered.
- Included in the price: for website orders there is nothing to register.
- 30-day returns if you change your mind.
- Free return label for faulty devices and warranty claims.
What the 12-month warranty covers
The warranty covers hardware faults. That includes the screen, the keyboard, the ports and the internal components. If a covered fault appears during the 12 months, we repair the device or send a replacement of the same specification and grade. If neither is possible, we refund you.
Your first 30 days
Within 30 days of delivery you can return the device for a full refund. After 30 days, the warranty provides a repair or a replacement.
Refurbished MacBook warranty
The same 12-month warranty applies to every refurbished MacBook Air, MacBook Pro, iMac and Mac mini we sell. There is no separate or shorter cover for Apple devices.
What the warranty does not cover
The warranty does not cover:
- accidental damage, such as drops or a cracked screen caused by an impact;
- liquid damage;
- unauthorised modifications.
Our warranty does not affect your statutory rights under the Consumer Rights Act 2015. You still have the right to a repair, replacement or refund for goods that are faulty, not as described or not fit for purpose.
30-day returns
You may return any item within 30 days of delivery if you change your mind, provided the device is returned in its original condition with all included accessories, cables and packaging. We recommend a tracked, insured service for change-of-mind returns. Refunds are issued to your original payment method within 5 working days of us receiving and checking the return.
Faulty or not as described
If your device develops a fault or does not match its description, contact us first. We cover the return cost with a free prepaid label and offer a full refund or a replacement. You can read the full details in our returns policy.
How to make a warranty claim
- Email support@buyerarea.co.uk with your order number.
- Describe the fault in a sentence or two. A photo or a short video helps us understand it quickly.
- We reply with the next steps and, where needed, return instructions and a prepaid label.
- We repair the device or send a replacement of the same specification and grade. If neither is possible, we refund you.
The full terms are on our warranty page.
Bought from us on Amazon, eBay or Back Market?
Our 12-month warranty applies wherever you bought from us. If you ordered through Amazon, eBay or Back Market, you can register your purchase on our warranty page to get your warranty confirmation and support. Enter the order number from the marketplace and the email address you used.
For a return on a marketplace order, use that marketplace's own returns process: Amazon's returns portal or Amazon messages, an eBay return request, or a Back Market return request.
Why the warranty matters when you buy refurbished
A warranty shows that the seller has confidence in the work done before the device was listed. Every device we sell is tested, repaired where needed, data-wiped, reinstalled and graded in our own UK workshop before it goes on sale. You can see each of those steps on our how we refurbish page. Cosmetic grades are explained on our grades page: every grade has the same 12-month warranty.
Tips to get the most from your warranty
- Keep your order confirmation email: your order number is all you need to start a claim.
- Contact us as soon as you notice a problem, rather than waiting.
- Back up your files before sending a device in for repair.
- Remove any passwords or account locks you have added, so the device can be tested.
What happens before your device ships
The warranty starts on the day your device arrives, but the work behind it starts long before. Each device is checked in and logged with its own barcode and serial record when it reaches our workshop, so we can trace its history from our workshop to your door. We check the screen, keyboard, trackpad, ports, speakers, microphone, camera, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth and storage. Faulty parts are replaced in our own workshop, and the device is then tested again from the start. The previous owner’s data is securely erased and a fresh copy of macOS or Windows is installed, ready for you to set up. Finally, the device is deep-cleaned and graded A, B or C on its looks only.
Who stands behind the warranty
The warranty is provided by Buyer Area Ltd, a UK company registered with Companies House (07830466) that has been refurbishing laptops and computers since 2011. We hold ISO 9001 for quality management, ISO 14001 for environmental management and ISO 45001 for health and safety. When you contact us about a claim, you deal directly with the team that refurbished your device.
Delivery
Delivery is free to mainland UK addresses. Orders are dispatched within 1–2 working days and usually arrive 2–4 working days after dispatch.
